Suspect who stabbed HISD high school student at bus stop ID'd

HISD: Houston police have identifed the adult male suspect

HOUSTON - Charges have been filed against the man authorities said stabbed a HISD high school student at a bus stop Thursday morning.

It happened around 6:30 a.m. Thursday at the bus stop located at the corner of Waldemar and Bentworth in southwest Houston.

" I seen a boy. He was stabbed," said Omar Talsan, a witness. "He was bleeding and everything. They told him to put his hand down. Put pressure on it.

HISD said 14-year-old boy was at the bus stop with fellow students when a masked man walked up and tried to grab a female high school senior.

"He tried to take the girl. He choked her and just said out loud, chill out bro. And he just took out the pocket knife and that's what happened. Everyone just ran away," said William Miriles, witness.

According to the district, the man, later identified as 52-year-old Cecil Keith McClenan Jr., tried to force the girl to leave.

Officials said several students tried to protect the girl when the boy was stabbed in the arm.

McClenan ran away when the bus pulled up and the driver honked the horn. The bus driver radioed in the incident to his dispatcher, who then called police.

A spokesperson for HISD said the student was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. The boy was treated and released. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The girl met with counselors at the school.

McClenan was taken into custody by HISD police when he surrendered Thursday afternoon at the high school. He's charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

In an email sent out to parents, Houston Independent School District said, "We are taking steps to further ensure the safety of students who are served by this bus stop, including added police presence for the near future. Please know that the safety of your students is our top priority."

According to Houston police, McCleanan faces charges for aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping.

HISD said there will be increased police presence at the bus stop for the near future.
