Store owner shoots at attempted burglar

FORT BEND COUNTY - Authorities are investigating a shooting incident that occurred in Kendleton early Sunday morning.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. Sunday at Belle's Country Store, located in the 13500 block of U.S. 59 southbound.

Deputies said they were called to the store in response to a shooting incident.

The store's owner told police he was sleeping inside when he saw a man pounding the window with what he thought was a rock. He then grabbed his handgun and shot three times before calling 911.

The owner said he was sleeping in his store because of a previous attempted burglary.

Later, deputies were contacted by Rosenberg police officers who had been called to the Waffle House on U.S. 59 for a man with gunshot wounds.

Authorities said the 24-year-old man at the Waffle House told police he had been shot near U.S. 59 and Grunwald Road.

The man was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital – The Medical Center where he was treated for two gunshot wounds to the abdomen. He is listed in stable condition.

The Fort Bend Sheriff's Office said the case is under investigation and will be referred to the Grand Jury.
