Rain slowly helping drought across Houston area

Monday's rain was a welcomed and much-needed sight across southeast Texas

HOUSTON – Monday's rain was a welcomed and much-needed sight across southeast Texas. The summer rains are providing relief from the heat and drought relief as well.

Most of southeast Texas is in a severe to extreme drought. But much more rain is needed to get us completely out of our drought. For this time of year, unfortunately, flooding rains from a tropical system would get us out of our drought.

Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport has seen a rainfall deficit for the year. More than ten inches of rain is needed to get us back to normal.

Two years ago, the Houston area was in the worst drought category possible, suffering through a devastating drought.

Thankfully, we are not that bad right now.
