MAGNOLIA, Texas - A dead bat recently found on the playground at a Magnolia elementary school tested positive for rabies.
In a statement released by Cedric C. Smith Elementary School, officials said the bat had been handled by a few students, but said they don't think they were exposed because the bat had been dead for several days.
School officials said they expect the State Department of Health to contact the parents of the kids who handled the bat to advise them of any action they may need to take. State officials said less than a dozen children may have been exposed to the bat.
School officials said they talked to students about what to do if they see a bat at the school.
Officials said they're continuing to check around school grounds for any signs of more bats.
