Police: Thieves steal pricey rims, wheels

Cars found stripped of valuables inside and out

BAYTOWN, Texas – Baytown police said thieves are targeting apartment complexes, looking to steal trucks and SUVs with nice rims and wheels.

Danielle Young said she paid her own hard earned money for her Chevrolet Tahoe SUV.

"I just wanted something nice for me and my family," Young said.

Her car used to have 26 inch chrome rims and a nice interior. Her daughter's car seat and video games were in the back seat. Young said a car thief, looking for easy access to finer things or maybe some extra money, took it all in just minutes, as it was parked in front her Rosemont apartment .

"I was on my way to work and I walked out and I walked passed to go get in my other vehicle and I had to do like a retake because I was like, hold up you know, my truck is missing,"

After a call to 911, detectives found her SUV, looking a lot less desirable because the valuables on and in it were gone.

Investigators said Young was one of several victims targeted Wednesday. On the same street a few blocks away on Garth Road, police said thieves took a 2008 GMC Yukon with chrome rims. They said it was also parked right in front of the victim's Logan Pointe apartment. The same night but on a new street, detectives said a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado disappeared at the Stonebrook apartments on Rollingbrook.

Police said those trucks were discovered with wheels, rims and most of the inside contents missing. They said the thieves didn't bother to sit the trucks on blocks. Instead they left them flat on the ground. Silverados seem to be popular, because investigators said another one, a 2002 model, was swiped from Village Lane. Officers found it stripped inside and out.

Now, Young is in no hurry to replace her lost property.

"I'll just leave it plain Jane for right now, until I move into a house and can put it in my garage. I'm gonna have to. Otherwise it might happen again," she said.
