HOUSTON - A man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after Houston police say he attacked his sister with a machete in north central Houston.

Houston police say the woman was worried Jose Romero was going to go into her house to attack her husband. When she tried to stop Romero, police say he hit her several times with the blunt side of a machete that was lying in the yard, and then fled the scene. She suffered minor bruising and some cuts.

When police were taking a report on the assault, they say they saw Jose Romero drive by the house and chased him. According to police, Romero threw a loaded pistol out his car window to a female friend.

Nancy Romero, who is not related, was pulling a plastic wagon with her 2-year-old and 1-year-old children inside. Police say she took the gun and put it under her children in the wagon.

Officers arrested 19-year-old Nancy Romero and confiscated the weapon. She was charged with endangering a child.

Jose Romero, 23, was also arrested and charged with aggravated assault of a family member.
