Paneling from display board falls, hits fan

HOUSTON - A fan cheering on the Houston Texans Sunday got more of a stadium experience than he bargained for when part of a sign fell into the stands.

The frightening incident happened just before halftime during the Texans' first game of the season.

"It was scary, nobody knew what was happening," said Sharon Baker, who was sitting in the end zone section of Reliant Stadium. "The Texans were coming down here and everybody was getting ready to yell and we heard a huge noise, saw this huge metal thing bounce off this guy's head."

Officials with Reliant Park told Local 2 part of a panel around an LED sign loosened and fell into the crowd. Reliant officials don't yet know how the piece was loosened.

"Just fell right down on his head, caught one guy pretty bad, he was bleeding pretty good down his face," said Larry Peters, another fan sitting in the same section. "I've seen a few things fall but that's the first time I've ever seen anything like that fall."

The name of the man who was injured has not yet been released. Reliant officials said he was transported to a hospital by one of the ambulances placed on stand-by at all Texans games.
