Officials: Girl hit by gunfire during drug deal shooting

HOUSTON – Investigations are underway Wednesday evening at two different shooting scenes in the Alief area after a drug deal in which a young girl was hit by a stray bullet.

Authorities say something went wrong during a drug deal between two groups of people outside an H-E-B on Beechnut and shots were fired between the two groups. Houston police say a 9-year-old who was an innocent bystander was hit in the cross-fire. She was transported to the hospital. The girl's condition is unknown at this time. Her 7-year-old brother was grazed by a bullet, transported to the hospital and released.

After the shooting, a group in a green vehicle fled the scene. That's when members of a drug task force gave pursuit. The suspects' vehicle crashed into another car outside a McDonald's less than a mile away on Beechnut.

The suspects got out of the vehicle to flee and that's when more shots were fired, this time by Rosenberg police and Precinct 1 deputy constables. It's unknown if the suspects fired shots at the McDonald's location.

Police say one suspect fled into the McDonald's restaurant and briefly held an employee hostage in a bathroom.

Two suspects are in custody, while one is still on the run.
