Observant neighbor alerts police to burglary; teen suspect captured

HOUSTON – Houston police say an observant neighbor saw a thief breaking into her neighbor's house and quickly called 911, leading to the quick capture of a suspect.

Officers say the burglar broke into a side window on a home at the corner of Nyssa and Trumpet streets in northeast Houston. A neighbor saw the burglar and called police.

"You got some good neighbors over here. So y'all get along over here," said owner Eddie Daniels. "I want to thank my neighbor for looking at the house while nobody was here. And thanks for reporting it."

Police called Daniels and told him about the crime Thursday morning. Police say the neighbor called police so quickly that they arrested a teenage suspect not far away and recovered stolen material.

Police returned two watches and a gun to Daniels not long after they disappeared. Daniels says he would replace the broken window.
