HOUSTON - A man was rushed to the hospital after a dramatic rescue in southwest Houston Sunday night.

Just after 11:15 p.m., police said a man was speeding eastbound on Heatherbrook Lane.

The driver lost control as he hit a speed bump near Catina Lane.  The car ran off the road, slammed into a tree and caught fire.

Neighbors were unable to free the man from the car, so they tried to douse the fire until Houston firefighters arrived.

Firefighters helped extinguish the flames, then freed the driver from the crumpled car.

He was taken to the hospital.  The extent of the driver's injuries was unknown.
