Mother, son arrested for string of robberies in Humble

HUMBLE, Texas - Ernestina Esparza, 71, couldn't sleep last night after a terrifying shopping trip to Walmart on Wednesday.

"I was scared. Last night I tried to close my eyes and go to sleep," said Esparza.

Esparza says every time she closed her eyes, she saw her alleged attacker's face.

Around 2 p.m. as she was putting her shopping bags into her Jeep, her purse was ripped off of her arm.

"Thank you ma'am, I tried getting my purse like this but he take it, sit down in the car and the car fly," said Esparza.

Police say that thief was 21-year-old Eugene Brimzy. He and his mother, Gabrell Melton, were driving all over Humble Wednesday snatching purses, according to police.

By the time Esparza called to report her purse had been stolen, police say the thieves had already moved on to their next target in the Sam's Club parking lot down the street.

And earlier that day, they allegedly attacked a woman outside of Burlington Coat Factory. Police say the mother-son duo punched her in the head, threw her to the ground and stole her wallet.

The suspects and vehicle matched all three robberies. Officers searched the surrounding area, and found the vehicle, bringing Brimzy and his mother to justice.

Ezparza is left with a bruised arm but says she is thankful they are behind bars.

"Thank you lord, thank you lord," said Esparza.

The purses were found in the vehicle and were returned to the victims.
