Mother accused of passing out in car with children

HOUSTON - A mother is accused of passing out in a car in a parking lot and leaving her two children unattended.

Rachel Mercedes Delarosa, 21, is charged with endangering a child.

According to court documents, Delarosa was parked outside a convenience store in the 2000 block of Evergreen in southeast Houston on May 8.

Her 2-year-old son was found wandering alone in the parking lot, and he nearly walked into traffic. Delarosa's four-month-old daughter was in the car.

Authorities say Delarosa admitted to police that she had smoked synthetic marijuana, known as K2 or cush. She said she had not smoked in a while, which is why she passed out. Both children were exposed to the drug.

Delarosa is being held in the Harris County Jail on a $2,000 bond.
