HOUSTON - A violent home invasion in northwest Houston escalated to a shooting.

It happened Thursday morning at the Clearbrook apartments on West 34th Street.

Houston police say the home invasion happened at around 8 a.m. Investigators say the victim, who owns a moving company and runs the operation out of his apartment, was inside with a friend. There was a knock at the door and when they opened it, investigators say three people were outside asking about employment.

Once inside, police say the three suspects forced the two men to the ground at gunpoint and ended up shooting the business owner in the head.

We spoke with police, as well as the victim's wife, who was not home at the time.

"During the exchange between the victim and the three suspects, a brief struggle took place and the complainant was shot once in the head. The suspects left the location with money in an unknown direction. We not sure if they left in a vehicle or not," said Ken Nealy, with the Houston Police Department.

"Inside one side and out the other. He is safe and he is getting out now," said the victim's wife.

The identity of the 61-year-old victim has not been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
