Jennifer Hudson sings to celebrate Hearst Corp. 125 Years

HOUSTON - The Hearst Corporation held a celebration event, marking 125 years in the media business.  The Hearst Corp. is the parent company to The Houston Chronicle.

Jennifer Hudson made a surprise appearance at the Wednesday evening event at the Asia Society Center in the Museum District.  She performed several of her hit songs to those in attendance.

Speakers at the celebration included Houston Mayor Annise Parker and the CEO of Hearst Corp., Frank Bennack.

There was a special screening of a documentary made to showcase the company's influence throughout the years.  The night was to celebrate Hearst and the Chronicle's role in Houston.

"Community service is what a newspaper is all about. We are very honored to be a part of the Houston community, and we hope we are serving it well," Steven Swartz, Hearst Corp. COO, said.

Swartz said the Houston Chronicle has now become the flagship newspaper of the Hearst Corporation.
