HOUSTON - CenterPoint Energy worked through the night to restore power in southwest Houston after a crash knocked out power, police said.

Video shows that a car slammed into a power pole on the South Sam Houston Parkway feeder southbound between Bellaire Boulevard and Beechnut Street around 2:30 a.m. Monday.

The video shows the force of the crash snapped the pole in half.

According to CenterPoint Energy it also knocked out power to more than 1,600 customers including hundreds of businesses.

While some larger businesses like Walmart were able to switch over to backup generators, others waited in the dark for hours.

Power was finally restored just before 4 a.m.
Investigators said it was unclear what caused the driver of the car that crashed to lose control.

They did not say if charges are pending.
Police did not reveal if there were any injuries in that crash.
