HPD: Man steals car from dealership

HOUSTON - A man has been accused of stealing a Cadillac that he said he was going to purchase.

Detectives said Joshua Hamp was clearly obsessed with Cadillac. The company logo was tattooed across his neck.

Investigators said he went into a Cadillac dealership, gave them $20,000 in cash for a 2008 Escalade worth $40,000, and left with the car to get his license. But he never came back.

"We allowed him to leave with the vehicle to obtain his driver's license and other documents in order to get the deal completed and he never returned," said Shawn Kemp, who works at the dealership.

Police said Hamp ditched the car, called the staff and threatened to kill them.

Investigators said Hamp has a long wrap sheet with nearly 20 arrests. On Monday, his parents went to the dealership and offered to pay off the remainder owed. The staff said no.

Once Hamp is found, he will face charges of theft and making a terroristic threat.
