HPD: Man charged after wife's body found inside home

HOUSTON - Charges have been filed against a man accused of killing his wife inside their southwest Houston home Friday afternoon.

Houston police officers responded to a disturbance and welfare check at the home on the 5700 block of Vendi Drive around 4:40 p.m. Friday after neighbors said they heard a woman yelling for help.

Police said the man barricaded himself inside the home and initially refused their commands to surrender. He eventually came out of the home.

"He came out with his hands up," neighbor Anbrik Bustos said.  "He turned around and right when he turned around, he tried to run into the backyard. That's when the cops got him."

Houston police took Gustavo Vasquez, 34, into custody. He is charged with murder.

Police said the body of 31-year-old Agnes Vasquez was found dead inside the home, just feet from the front door. Officials said she was shot multiple times.

"It's sad," one neighbor said. "Because maybe they were preparing to do something for the holidays, but now they can't."
