HPD cruiser damaged in police chase

HPD: Suspects fled after running a red light

HOUSTON – Two men were arrested Friday after leading Houston police on a chase through southwest Houston.

The chase started when two men in a red Mercedes ran a red light in front of officers at the intersection of the Southwest Freeway and Bissonnet Street, investigators said. When police tried to pull the men over, they sped off.

Officer Eric Peter said the men, "went on the feeder, hit spikes, went into a neighborhood and bailed out of the car."

Peter said they ran from police in the neighborhood near the Southwest Freeway and West Bellfort, but officers were able to quickly apprehend them.

Both men were arrested. It is still not clear why they fled.

A Houston Police cruiser had to be towed after the chase. It was damaged when it ran over the same spike strips that stopped the suspects' car.
