HOUSTON - Two people ran from a scene where a man was killed after an SUV slammed into the side of his truck in southwest Houston, investigators said.
The crash happened at the intersection of Harwin Drive and Fondren Road around 2:10 a.m. Friday.
Houston police said the female driver of a Nissan SUV ran the red light at the intersection and T-boned a red pickup truck waiting to turn.
According to investigators, the woman checked on the 55-year-old man trapped in his vehicle. Instead of helping him, the woman and her passenger ran from the scene, police said.
"I don't think it's going to be hard at all. What we have is the prints from the vehicle. The airbag is deployed so we'll be able to lift prints and get DNA from the passenger and the driver of the vehicle," said Sgt. D. Thomas with the Houston Police Department.
Emergency crews tried to save the man, who was pinned upside down in his truck, but he had already died from his injuries. His name has not been released.
Crash scene investigators believe the couple who took off may have been drunk and just left a nearby club.
Anyone with information is asked to call the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4065 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
