Houston Zoo unveils new water park

Water park free with paid admission

HOUSTON - The Houston Zoo is offering a new way to beat the Houston heat with a brand new water park.

The Kathrine McGovern Water Play Park is located just inside the zoo's Texas Medical Center admission gate near the Wildlife Carousel and Twiga Terrace in the African Forest.

Zoo officials said the 13,500-square-foot park offers 37 different water-play features, including a colorful sea serpent and a tall "fill and spill" water tree.

The designers included seating for parents to watch their children play, officials said.

The water park was designed with the environment in mind, officials said. The park's water features remain in sleep mode until a guest steps on one of two touch sensors.

The park is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
