High-speed police chase in Waller County ends in major wreck

The suspect is accused of stealing a construction worker's pickup truck

HOUSTON - A high-speed police chase in Waller County ended in a major wreck.

The Waller County sheriff tells Local 2 that a male suspect stole a construction worker's pickup truck from Logan Industries in the city of Hempstead at around 2:20pm. The superintendent on site witnessed the incident and followed the suspect while calling 911.

Deputies, Hempstead police and the Department of Public Safety joined the pursuit. The suspect eventually crashed into an 18-wheeler hauling gravel at the intersection of Highway 290 and FM 1098 near Prairie View. The big rig jackknifed.

The intersection is shut down.

The suspect was transported to North CYpress Hospital and is currently in critical condition.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The chase lasted 25 minutes, and traveled 13 miles at speeds of 95-100mph. One deputy sheriff's car was struck on the right front fender during the chase.
