Good Samaritan saves survivors of deadly crash

HOUSTON – A Good Samaritan helped save a group of people before their truck caught on fire following an accident in Northeast Houston.

According to the Houston Police Department, the driver lost control of the truck Sunday night while speeding down an Eastex Freeway exit ramp and crashed into a freeway column.

The Good Samaritan stopped to pull out the three people inside the truck.

Police said he got them out safely before the truck caught fire, but the 17-year-old driver died at the scene.

Another man was riding in the truck bed. He was tossed from the truck, but was not seriously injured.

Officials said the three victims were taken to Ben Taub General Hospital. One victim was transported in critical condition, while the conditions of the other two were unknown. 

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Police suspected that the three survivors were drunk. Blood work on the driver is pending.
