HOUSTON - A 3-year-old girl was hit and killed by a car in northeast Houston.

Around 11 a.m. Sunday, investigators said Madison Slack was crossing the parking lot at the Oaks of Woodforest Apartments on Uvalde near Freeport when she was hit by a vehicle. She was rushed to a hospital, but didn't survive.

Tina Jackson lives nearby and said the area where the little girl was killed is dangerous.

"These cars, they come in here too fast for one thing. They should have speed bumps. These people come in here like it's I-10, and that's wrong," said Jackson.

Investigators said they're treating the incident as an accident and no charges have been filed.

There's no word yet on whether Slack was walking alone or if her parents were nearby.
