Five suspects sought in steel shop robbery in Montgomery County

Thieves escaped with half a million dollars worth of steel

MAGNOLIA - The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating a robbery of a specialty steel supply store.

According to officials, the burglary occurred on Saturday and Sunday nights in the 19200 block of Circle Lake Drive near SH 249 in Magnolia.

Deputies say the suspects drove two white vans to the property and forced their way into the building.

According to the business owner, Paul Haggar, the suspects stole roughly half a million dollars worth of steel.

"Came in here, shut the doors, closed it up so nobody could see them and proceeded to load up with high-price stainless and nickel alloys," Hagar said.

Surveillance cameras caught the thieves in action.

The video shows the suspects using the company's machine to lift the metal and load their vans.

When the thieves were done, they gave two thumbs up to the cameras.

"This material is very expensive. It's very special, it goes into down hole drilling. It goes for in excess of 20 to 30 dollars a pound," said Hagar.

He says they were very familiar with the warehouse, the metal held there and they seemed to have had a detailed plan on how to get in and out.

"We're convinced somebody has been in here either as a previous employer or as a driver or some way had a look around and understands what's kept in here," said Haggar.

According to Haggar, they will have an armed security guard there from now on.

He says they are offering a $10,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to an arrest.

There are five suspects.
