HOUSTON - The shooting deaths of two robbery suspects will be referred to a Harris County grand jury, according to the Houston Police Department.

It happened at about 6:50 p.m. Monday at a convenience store at 9010 Beechnut St. and Jorine Drive.

Investigators said three men entered the store and tried to rob the location. One of the robbers pistol-whipped a 37-year-old man who worked at the store.

That's when a second employee, Tien Du, 57, re-entered the store after taking a break. Police said Du shot at the man pistol-whipping his co-worker and another man. Du was not hurt, but the 37-year-old man was hospitalized.

Houston police said the three men, only described as black, fled in a tan sedan. Two of the men were dropped off across the street and transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, where they later died. Their identities are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, according to HPD.

Authorities said a third suspect is still at large.

Anyone with information about the attempted robbery is asked to call HPD's homicide division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
