Elderly woman robbed at gunpoint

Police: Woman robbed inside her home

RICHMOND, Texas - Richmond Police said a 73-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint in her own home.

Carmen Torres pulled onto her street just as police descended on her 73-year-old neighbor's home.

"Right away I said, 'What's going on?" Torres said.

Police are not releasing the victim's name. According to detectives, the victim owns a Houston jewelry store with her husband, but sometimes sells to friends and family out of her home.

When two men and a woman knocked on the victim's door and said a friend sent them to look at jewelry, investigators said the victim took the suspects at their word.

Once she let the suspects inside her home, police said one man pulled a gun and demanded all of the victim's jewelry. Detectives said the victim took off the pieces she was wearing and handed them over to the suspects, but that wasn't enough. Authorities said the suspects locked the woman inside the closet and tore through the home looking for more jewelry, eventually leaving with thousands of dollars worth.

Pauline Salinas said the victim was running out of the house, crying to get help from another neighbor. Salinas said the victim has helped her repair jewelry before and she's thankful the victim was not hurt during the robbery.

"She could have been killed, but she was lucky," said Salinas.

However, Torres said it is still upsetting to know her 73-year-old neighbor was harmed merely for trying to make a living.

"She works as much as she can to help her husband and her family," said Torres.

According to police, the female suspect was described as approximately 35-years-old; five feet and three inches tall; heavy build; and with blonde hair in a pony-tail. She was wearing grey capri pants and carrying a brown alligator print purse.

The first male suspect was described as approximately 30-years-old; 170 to 185 pounds; five feet and six inches to five feet and seven inches tall; and with short black hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt.

The second male suspect was described as approximately 22-years-old; five feet and three inches tall; heavyset; and with short black hair. He was wearing a red t-shirt and blue jeans.

Police said the first male suspect had a gun that could possibly be a black semi-automatic pistol.

Authorities said the suspects were driving an older model gray passenger car.

Authorities are asking anyone with any information to call the Richmond Police detectives at (281) 342-2849 or the Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers at (281) 342-TIPS (8477).
