HOUSTON - The Eastex Freeway southbound at the North Beltway has reopened after an accident involving a Houston police officer.

Officials said around 11 a.m. HPD Officer Miguel Rosario, 19-year veteran with the department, had responded to an accident where debris was in the road.

As the Officer Rosario was attempting to block off a portion of the freeway, another car hit the vehicle that had spilled the debris pushing it into him.

Rosario was transported to Memorial Hermann Trauma Institute in fair condition. He's being treated for a broken leg, broken collarbone and cuts.

The driver of the car that hit the vehicle will be cited for failure to control speed. Police said roads were slick at the time.

The Eastex Freeway reopened around 1:10 p.m.
