Driver falls asleep at the wheel, crashes

HOUSTON – Two people were injured in a major car accident in southwest Houston.

Around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, a 20-year-old woman was driving a minivan westbound on Westpark Drive.

Police said she fell asleep at the wheel, hit the curb at Ace Street, then struck a wooden electrical pole and a concrete slab next to it, causing the van to roll over.

Emergency crews took both the driver and her passenger to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

Police said they will test the driver to see if alcohol played a factor in the crash.
