Dog turned in to shelter in Pasadena

HOUSTON - A dog that a family believes was stolen from their back yard has been found safe.

Bubba disappeared from his family's home on Kirkmead in southeast Houston on Thursday morning. His owners said thieves forced their way into their back yard through a tough-to-open gate.

"I think that someone came into the back yard and luckily just took a dog and not someone's life," said owner Benjamin Hord.

The family searched the neighborhood for Bubba, but they didn't have any luck. A neighbor told the family that they saw a man in a red pickup truck stopping and asking people if they wanted a black and white dog.

Shortly after the story about 13-year-old Bubba's disappearance aired on KPRC Local 2 at 10 p.m., the family got a call from a woman who works at a shelter in Pasadena. Bubba had been dropped off there about noon.

The family went to the shelter Friday morning and was reunited with Bubba. No one was more excited than 2-year-old Emma, who had been wandering around the house looking for Bubba.

"When we got there, she was like, 'It's Bubba! Bubba! He's coming home,'" mom Brittany Hord said. "When he got home, they played and now she's back to her normal self."
