SUGAR LAND - Sugar Land residents stayed up late to catch the midnight premiere of "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes."

Fans of the classic franchise poured out of the First Colony AMC 24 Theater early Friday morning. The sequel to "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" has already fared well with critics, and moviegoers agree that it is a crowd-pleaser.

"You can tell the people who made the movie really put their and soul into it," said one excited fan. "I really enjoyed it."

The movie takes place three years after its predecessor. Set in the ruins of San Francisco, the intelligent apes believe a lethal virus has entirely wiped out humanity. That is, until the apes come face-to-face with a group of humans seeking help.

‘Dawn' is the eighth theatrical release in the franchise. It's currently playing in theaters across town.
