Crews work to repair water main break in SW Houston

HOUSTON – City workers are repairing a water main break along a busy road in southwest Houston.

According to Houston police, the main broke around 4 a.m. Tuesday under a sidewalk in the 7900 block of Westheimer Road near Stoney Brook Drive.

Public works crews are pumping water out and directing it to a storm drain. Crews say they need to excavate the water before they can repair the water main.

Officials estimate the repairs will go on through Tuesday afternoon. All lanes are expected to reopen by 4 p.m.

If you are driving in the area, consider using Richmond Avenue, San Felipe Drive or Westpark Drive as alternative routes.

Water at businesses in the area has been cut off, so if you're planning to eat lunch at a restaurant nearby, call ahead to make sure they are open. The businesses Local 2 spoke to said they will be up and running for the dinner rush.
