Community members gather for march in memory of Deputy Goforth

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Tens of thousands of people came out to take part in a march to honor first responders and the memory of Deputy Darren Goforth on Saturday morning along the Sam Houston Tollway in northwest Harris County.

The march started around 9 a.m. on the service roads of the Sam Houston Toll Road from Gessner to Fallbrook Drive.

Sky 2 showed the sea of people wearing blue shirts with the message "Police Lives Matter."

"I am trying to prove that you can have a peaceful march like you are supposed to, instead of tearing up everybody's property and everything else," said march organizer Charlie Diggs.

This is another example of how the Harris County Sheriff's Office continues to receive overwhelming support from the community following the death of Goforth.

"They don't realize how many people do have their back, so for us to all come together on one day and show how many people can bleed blue with them, was vital," said supporter Christa Little.

Community members organized this march to honor law enforcement and the memory of the fallen hero.

"The cops son, his dad was Captain America to him so I just wanted to represent Captain America today," said marcher, Michael Washington.

"They are very touched by it, Houston community seems to be very supportive of police officers," said Darryl Malone with The Thin Blue Line Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club.

KPRC 2 was told all the proceeds raised from everything sold here today at the march will go directly to the Goforth family.
