Car vandals strike northeast Houston community

HOUSTON - Vandals struck a northeast Houston neighborhood overnight leaving people there with a big mess to clean up.

The crime happened in a neighborhood off of Mesa Drive and Tidwell Road.

Phillip Delgado didn't hear the vandals outside his home overnight, but in the light of day, the mess they left behind was hard to miss.

"I think kids, somebody's bored, went through the neighborhood started busting out windows on everyone's car," Delgado said.

The two-street subdivision saw five cars damaged, including Gabriella Martell's vehicle.

"No they didn't take anything, just broke in the windows," said Martell.

The path of attack appeared random.

"This other guy has a nice Corvette and they didn't hit his car; skipped that one and went to the next one," said Delgado.

Their only goal seemed to be destruction, not quick cash.

"I had a wallet in the car, radio's still there," he said.

Nothing taken, but plenty lost, including hundreds of dollars for window repairs and a sense of security.

"Maybe knuckleheads, but you never know if that could escalate, right?" said Delgado.

"I'm scared. I live here with my husband and little daughter. I'm not safe here," Martell said.

Neighbors tell Local 2 they think this area was targeted because the neighborhood has a quick way to get in and out.

If you have any information on the break-ins, call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
