Car burglar caught on camera

Investigators: Crook breaks window in broad daylight

HOUSTON – A woman thought her car would be safe while she worked out, but she soon found her car window, along with her sense of security, smashed to pieces.

The crime happened Monday around 6 p.m. at the River Oaks Gym in the 1900 block of West Gray.

Houston police said the woman had just finished her workout when she walked to her car and realized what had happened.

"I was scared and I was violated. Nothing like this has ever happened to  me," said the woman, who didn't want to be identified.

On surveillance video, investigators said a man dressed in a white tank top and basketball shorts jumped out of the passenger side of a black Dodge Charger and walked up to the woman's vehicle.

Investigators said the crook used a glass punch to break the woman's window.

"When I looked in the window and I saw my lunch bag was gone, I said, 'that's all they wanted,' Because it looked like a purse. Nothing else was touched in my car," the woman said.

Chad Evans, the owner of the gym, said he wants the guy and his getaway driver caught.

"I've worked hard to establish a business here, and I don't want these thugs messing it up," said Evans.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
