FRIENDSWOOD - Two brothers are facing charges after police said they tried to steal Freon.

Friendswood police said officers were called to a burglary in progress around 11:30 p.m. on October 3 at a business in the 700 block of S. Friendswood Drive.

Upon arrival, an officer said he found 32-year-old Jeremy Taylor and his 27-year-old brother, Joshua, squatting next to an air conditioner. Police said Jeremy was wearing a pair of white leather gloves and Joshua had a white trash bag.

Both men were taken into custody. Upon further investigation, the officer said he noticed the service cap on the Freon line of the air conditioner had been removed. Police later learned the Taylor brothers were attempting to steal Freon so that they could inhale it.

Both men were charged with criminal trespass and bonds for them were set at $1,000 each.

Authorities said huffing Freon is not only addictive, but deadly. Inhaling Freon produces a high that is similar to what is felt from drinking alcohol and doing so can freeze the lungs or cause brain damage.
