Boy shot in head with high-powered BB gun

HPD: Victim's brother was playing with gun when it went off

HOUSTON - An 8-year-old boy was shot in the head with a high-powered BB gun near downtown Houston.

Police said the boy and his 13-year-old brother were playing with the gun inside their home at the Irvington Village Apartments in the 2900 block of Fulton Street near Halpern Street Thursday at 10 p.m. Police said the gun went off and the BB struck the 8-year-old in the head.

The child was transported to Texas Children's Hospital in stable condition. He was released Friday morning.

The boys' mother said the 8-year-old is recovering at home.

Houston police said that the shooting was an accident. They confiscated the gun, but saw no reason to remove the victim's brother from the home.

Police have not said if Child Protective Services will get involved in this case.
