PASADENA - The Bayport Cruise Terminal is open for business.
The terminal welcomed its first cruise in several years Tuesday morning.
The Caribbean Princess ship sailed from the Port of Houston Authority's terminal, which has sat vacant for much of the time since it was built in 2008.
Last November, the port secured its first cruise line agreements.
The Princess vessel, which is part of the Princess Cruises fleet, will offer western Caribbean voyages.
Norwegian Cruise Line has also agreed to start service from the terminal with western Caribbean trips next year using the Norwegian Jewel.
The port says there are economic benefits with the new cruise terminal. The new cruise lines are expected to deliver more than 400,000 passengers to Houston over the next four years, which is expected to have an economic impact of $50 million each year.
