Apartment fire displaces 5 families

HOUSTON - With the holidays around the corner, an apartment fire on Monday forced five families out of their homes in southeast Houston.

The fire broke out shortly before midnight at the Alexander House Apartments on Gulfton Drive and Renwick Drive.

Houston firefighters said flames spread from the patio of a downstairs apartment.

Authorities said power meters were destroyed, shutting off electricity to the building. Five families were displaced because of the power issue.
