7 arrested after sealed federal indictment served in SW Houston

HOUSTON – The lockdown at a HISD elementary school in southwest Houston has ended hours after a sealed federal indictment was served  in the neighborhood Tuesday morning.

The area in the 12400 block of Zavala at W. Orem was surrounded after a sealed Homeland Security indictment was served at a home.

Officials said at one point 50 law enforcement agents from the FBI, ICE, Homeland Security and Houston police were at the scene.

HSI released a brief statement which read in part, "Special agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the FBI have conducted court-authorized enforcement at the compound located at the 12000 block of Zavala today."

Homeland Security said seven people were arrested, including six men and one woman. No other information has been released at this time.

Fondren Elementary officials confirmed to Local 2 that the school was placed under lockdown as a precaution. The lockdown ended around 11 a.m.
