HOUSTON - Police conducted an investigation after five cars were found burned in the parking lot of a southwest Houston apartment complex.

Residents of the Watermill Apartments on Westheimer Road said they heard popping and crackling around 6 a.m. Saturday.  When they woke up to see what was wrong, they saw five cars on fire in the parking lot.

They called 911; police officers and the fire department responded and put out the flames.

"When I came home from work, I saw that there were a lot of cars that had been burnt, and there were police officers and the fire department," said Sam Pitre, a resident of the complex.

The incident is still under investigation.
