HOUSTON - Two men have been arrested in a shooting during a drug transaction in which a little girl was struck by a stray bullet, according to police.

Jordan Q. Wilson, 21, and Reginald J. Smith, 19, are in custody and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon. Wilson is also charged with felony possession of marijuana.

Houston police say on Wednesday afternoon Wilson and Smith tried to rob a Hispanic male during a drug deal in parking lot of an H-E-B in the 10100 block of Beechnut. The Hispanic man opened fire at the two suspects vehicle and an 8-year-old girl, an innocent bystander in the same parking lot, was hit in the leg by one of the bullet. Her 7-year-old brother was grazed by a bullet, and was treated and released from the hospital.

The girl remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Wilson and Smith fled the scene, driving westbound on Beechnut at a high rate of speed. Police say Wilson lost control of the vehicle and caused a traffic accident in the 10700 block of Beechnut in front of a McDonald's restaurant.

Police say Wilson and Smith fled with guns and bags of marijuana in their hands. That's when two officers with the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force -- one a Rosenberg PD officer and the other a Harris County Precinct 1 Constable's Office deputy constable -- witnessed the collision and tried to apprehend the two suspects.

Wilson was arrested, but Smith ran inside the McDonald's restaurant. Police say Smith produced a gun and began to raise it in the direction of the officers, who opened fire at Smith. He was not hit, Smith was then taken into custody.

No one was injured.

The incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division, as is customary when an officer discharges a weapon in the city limits of Houston.
