1 teen dies, 4 injured after car plunges over Galveston Seawall

GALVESTON, Texas – A teenager died and four others were hurt after investigators said their car plunged over a section of the Galveston Seawall.

The accident happened just after 12 a.m. Sunday on the far east end of Seawall Boulevard near 1st Street.

Investigators said five people were traveling in a 2004 Ford Mustang when it plunged over the Seawall and into some thick shrubbery below.

Irvin Ruiz, 18, died, investigators said. He was a student in the Texas City Independent School District. His friends said he planned to join the Army after graduation.

The other four teens in the car, Aaron Ceballos, 19, Luis Aguirre, 16, Alexis Williamson, 14, and Celeste Plesada, 14, were taken to UTMB hospital. Three of them have been treated and released.

Ceballos was the driver. Police have not said if he will face charges.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
