Texas lawmakers react to Fort Hood shooting

Headline Goes Here

FORT HOOD, Texas - Lawmakers across Texas reacted to the Fort Hood mass shooting Wednesday:

Gov. Rick Perry released the following statement: "Today, Ft. Hood was once again stricken by tragedy. As Texans, our first priority must be caring for the victims and their families. Ft. Hood has proven its resilience before, and will again. Texas will support those efforts in any way we can, with any resources necessary. The thoughts and prayers of all Texans are with everyone affected by this tragedy."

Wendy Davis released a statement: "Texans are united in deep sorrow at this terrible tragedy.  Our prayers are with the families and all those who serve at Fort Hood."

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee released a statement which read in part: ...offers her deepest sympathy to the families of the men and women who lost their lives and to those who were injured at Fort Hood. This is the second time that an incident like this has occurred.  This is a threat to our national security and a threat to the men and women in the United States military.  It is time now to formulate a serious Homeland Security response that makes this base impenetrable.  The last shooting on November 5, 2009, I mourned with the Fort Hood family and we said never again.  Now, we have to question the security of this base and demand zero tolerance for security breaches on our military bases and government facilities.  This should not happen on our domestic soil."

Congressman Michael McCaul released a statement: "For the second time in five years Fort Hood has been struck by tragedy. As a central Texan, this hits hard and hits home. While we do not yet know how many were tragically injured today, we do know that brave heroes ran to their aid. I join all Americans in offering my thoughts and prayers during this tragic time to those affected by this shooting, especially the victims and their families."
