HOUSTON – An inmate in a Texas prison wrote a letter confessing to the murder of a Houston woman in 1999, court documents state.
San Diego Delgado, who was 15 at the time, said he killed Novell McKissack in September 1999, according to court documents.

Police said McKissack, 93, was found dead in her bed at her house in the 5300 block of Petty in northwest Houston on Sept. 4, 1999, after friends were unable to contact her on the phone. Her cause of death was manual strangulation with multiple blunt force impact facial trauma and sharp force injuries. Witnesses recalled seeing a man hiding in her backyard, but the suspect was never caught and the case went cold.
Court documents state in 2014 Delgado, who was serving a 25-year sentence for aggravated sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping in the Gib Lewis Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Tyler County, wrote a letter confessing to the murder of McKissack.
According to court records, Delgado wrote that he was "desperate for drugs," so he climbed into the window of McKissack's home, which was just down the street from his residence. While he was stealing her television, Delgado wrote that he made too much noise and someone "started to rise," so he "stabbed her a bunch of times in her face, neck," and didn't stop till she was not moving," according to court documents.
Prosecutors said Delgado said he took the TV, money and jewelry from McKissack's house.

A motion was filed May 3 to deal with Delgado as an adult in the case. He will be held without bond.
