Texans progressing, ready for preseason opener

During Saturday morning’s practice, Bill O’Brien was in a good mood. He actually skipped a “workout period” and because of that called pushups on himself in front of team, which enjoyed every bit of it.

“I was going to another period and I was skipping so I punished myself,” said O’Brien after practice. “It’s what you’ve got to do. You have to hold yourself accountable. I did 30.”

With a day off Sunday and one workout Monday before Wednesday’s preseason game at Carolina, O’Brien was asked about playing time.

“Everybody that’s able to play in the game will play in the game,” O’Brien said.

O’Brien confirmed that Defensive End J.J. Watt will see action. How much is still to be determined and the same goes for his quarterbacks, who O’Brien says will be finalized once the staff meets and plans out who will play Wednesday.

After 12 days in West Virginia and 10 workouts, players are hitting the annual wall. They are pushing through, and are more than ready to play an actual game. Count Brian Cushing as one of those.

“Just continue to play better. Continue to practice and do better and try to eliminate all mistakes,” Cushing said. “I think that’s the important thing, to come out and just play collectively really well against Carolina.”
