Texans host, treat youth football team at training camp

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va – The crowds at the Texans NRG Practice facility are different from those at the holding camp.

Here in West Virginia, most of the seats are empty during the daily two-hour workouts.

On Friday morning, however, more seats were filled, as the team hosted football teams from the West Virginia youth leagues.

Children between the ages of 6 to and 12 came out to take in the camp practice and afterwards were treated to opportunities for autographs and pictures with the teams.

“It’s a lot of fun to hang with the kids for a little while,” said tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz. “It’s great that we can do this and support youth football on behalf of the organization.”

While the Texans went through their paces at the Greenbrier Sports Performance Center, all of the children, many of whom were lined up at the railings, watched every drill and cheered on their favorite Texans players.

After the meet and greet, all of the children were treated to a pizza lunch provided by the team.

“That’s awesome. I think, with all that’s going on with football right now, it’s a great team sport,” said head coach Bill O’Brien.

“There are so many life lessons that you can learn in football,” O’Brien said. “It was great to have the West Virginia Cardinal Youth League here to meet our players, watch practice and watch how we coach things. Our players did a good job going over there and hanging with them. That was fun.”
