HOUSTON - It's technically day three of training camp for the Texans, but a lot of the players say today is when it all began.

The team worked out in full pads for the first time with training camp season.

"I thought today was a good day, I really did," head coach Bill O'Brien said. "I thought that these guys came out and were ready to go, I think the acclimation of people really helps. You kind of ramp them up from shells to pads and from conditioning to shells to pads. and I think that helps," said head coach Bill O'Brien.

Texans linebacker Whitney Mercilus mentioned a common adage during NFL training camps: Any player can look elite when they're practicing in pads.

"It felt great, that's what we were looking forward to, instead of playing in shorts all day - anybody can look good in until you get the pads on - that's real football," he said.

Texans cornerback Kareem Jackson said that he noticed the intensity increasing.

"A lot of fun," cornerback Kareem Jackson said. "First day back in pads, have to get used to wearing them, but I think the day was a success with everybody having their pads on and being physical there at the end, it definitely was a lot of fun."
