Texans fans excited to see Deshaun Watson play

HOUSTON – The Houston Texans bold move to trade up in the 2017 NFL Draft and pick Deshaun Watson as their next quarterback has Texans fans beyond excited.

“When the trade came out, I was like, ‘Holy crap we just traded up, we’re going to get Watson,” explained Pati Cream in her decked out Houston Texans-themed game room.

The super fan, also known as “The Horns” because of the hat she wears to all the home and away games, was at the Texans official draft party on Thursday.

“I know he’s going to have to be groomed, he’s not going to walk out there and play the first game and be joe great quarterback,” explained Cream. “He’s a humble guy, I really liked listening to him last night. He thanked his mom and where he comes from. I think he will be cool to sit on a bench and be groomed and be mentored."

Watson spoke at NRG Stadium Friday afternoon for the first time as Texans football player and said he’s been on Cloud 9.

“My emotions have just been sky high ever since I got the call, tears have been coming out of my eyes,” said Watson. “It’s just surreal to think that I’m officially a national football player, just to be on this stage with these guys and great organization is special.”

An emotional Watson was seen hugging his mom when he found out the life-changing news. A moment he credits to his mother and family.

“My mom she’s my rock, she’s the one that raised me, a single mom with four kids it was tough,” said Watson. “My whole family plays a big part in my support cast, it’s been awesome having them in my life.”

Fans are happy not only with Watson’s skill on the field but his humble nature off of it.

On Friday people went to the Texans Store at NRG to get their custom made jerseys with the number 4.

“I’m so excited I had to be one of the first ones to get our jerseys,” said Lucy Mares. “Yeah it’s been frustrating definitely, but hopefully now that we have a good quarterback and somebody like Watson going to make it so, we’ll just see where this goes.”

Also getting their jerseys was Houston Texans owner Bob McNair’s daughter, Hannah.

“My kids are here, picked them up from school early and we got them some Watson jerseys,” explained Hannah McNair who got two jerseys for her 5- and 6-year-old.

“Very excited you know we’ve been looking for a franchise quarterback and the whole city is excited,” said McNair about Watson. “He’s a great guy, great family, his whole family is here and it’s very exciting to meet them, and just see what a great community is around him.”

People can get their custom-made jerseys at the Texans store at NRG Stadium for about $150 between 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Academy Sports and Outdoors said it has a shipment in and should receive Watson jerseys in about two weeks.
