HOUSTON - A teenager was killed and two young children were hurt in a crash that police said may have started with a street race in east Houston.

Witnesses told Houston Police that the driver of a black GMC pickup truck was racing on the East Freeway feeder near Uvalde before he crashed just before midnight Friday.

"We saw two black trucks that were speeding, going really fast. They were racing one in front of the other," said a witness.

Police said the driver ran a red light at the intersection of I-10 and Uvalde which caused two other vehicles to crash.

The pickup truck then struck a light pole and several people were ejected, police said.

Investigators said a 19 year-old woman in the truck was killed.

Police said two children in the same pickup truck were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"I was really scared because I have small children myself. I don't think those babies were in car seats because they flew out. I picked the baby up off the floor from the vehicle," said a witness.

Police said the 18 year-old driver of the pickup truck also suffered major injuries and unknown charges are pending against him at this time.
