Teacher accused of sexting, touching student goes to court

Jeffrey Guzman taught at Elsik High School for 9 years

HOUSTON - A high school teacher accused of trying to have a sexual relationship with a student went before a judge Tuesday.

Jeffrey Guzman, 32, has been charged with two counts of improper relationship with a student.

According to the Alief Independent School District, Guzman taught economics at Elsik High School for nine years.

Court documents said Guzman, who is married with two young children, sent explicit text messages, including photos, to a 17-year-old senior student in March.

Guzman later went to the student's home, where he picked her up and the two kissed in his car, investigators said. According to court documents, Guzman also sexually touched the girl and she got him to stop after telling him that she was on her menstrual cycle.

Guzman did not speak to reporters after the hearing. The judge did give him a rule to follow.

"The only restriction that (the judge) gave him was no contact, which is one that I put on my client to begin with," attorney James Fallon said. "It's a common-sense restriction, so that's what we'll be operating under. We will certainly have no contact with people making allegations of this nature."

Detectives said they spoke to two former students, who both told them that they had sex with Guzman when they were 18 years old.

Alief ISD officials said Guzman has been placed on administrative leave and his termination is pending.

Guzman was released from jail after posting $30,000 bond.
